Grew up in Brockton, Massachusetts, in a close-knit family with Kenyan roots. Early life was filled with backyard football, water balloon fights, and African games like Ki, instilling teamwork and competitive energy. Influenced by his mother and grandmother’s business sense, he developed an entrepreneurial mindset.
After years in labor-intensive jobs, Why Wait realized steady pay wasn’t enough. In 2020, inspired by a trip to Kenya, he founded Kwenda Clothing, built around the philosophy “Why Wait?”
Starting small, he stitched hoodies by hand, learning sewing via YouTube, and hustled through popups and events. Breakthrough came when South Shore Plaza gave him a kiosk, validating his vision. From there, he grew his following, stayed focused on customers, and turned Kwenda Clothing into a purpose-driven brand promoting urgency, action, and ambition.
The brand’s DNA is simple, powerful, and quality-driven. Why Wait envisions global growth, more kiosks, and an accessible online presence. Even on slow days or setbacks, he keeps pushing, proving that passion, discipline, and consistency are the true currency of entrepreneurship.

HipHopMunchies: For people just discovering you, who is Why Wait?
Why Wait: I’m from Brockton, Mass. I grew up with family, cousins, backyard games, sports—football, basketball, swimming—you name it. Life was fun, full of energy, full of culture. That’s where I learned how to move, how to grind, and how to dream.
HipHopMunchies: What shaped you the most growing up—family, sports, business, art?
Why Wait: A little bit of everything, but mostly family and business. My mom and grandmother taught me discipline and how to run things. Sports taught me teamwork and persistence. That mix built the mindset I use today.
HipHopMunchies: Did you always see yourself as an entrepreneur?
Why Wait: Not at first. I had good jobs—construction, labor, paving, asphalt work—but I always had glimpses of wanting more. I realized there’s a cap in jobs—you’ll always make less than the boss. So I started betting on myself.
HipHopMunchies: How did you get the confidence to leave a steady job and start your brand?
Why Wait: I studied people making it—like World Envision from Atlanta—and I saw a kid making $11K his first month. I figured if he can do it, I can start my own hustle, cover my bills, and build something for myself.
HipHopMunchies: Where did Kwenda Clothing come from?
Why Wait: Kwenda means “go” in Swahili. Life’s too short to wait. The brand is about action, purpose, and moving forward. I wanted the culture of my Kenyan roots to inspire the energy behind the clothes.
